Our rooflights as standard feature 32mm DGU (slimglaze use 28mm) toughened safety glass with low-e coating and warm edge spacer.  The low-e coating allows the suns natural heat (solar gain) to pass through the panes then the low-e coating reflects the heat gain back into the room, which is more energy efficient. The warm edge spacer is made of an insulating plastic composite material that becomes a barrier to heat loss, keeping the edge of the unit warm, resulting in less heat loss. The glass specification for walk on/man safe rooflights is determined by the size & loading requirements.

Thermally broken rooflights are manufactured from our own 6063-T6 aluminium profile, thermally broken with 32mm polyamide insulation sections to prevent cold bridging and stop condensation. Slimglaze frames are non thermally broken and are 9005 matt black as standard. On other rooflights listed frames are dual colour, coated with marine grade polyester powder coating; supplied in dark grey (RAL 7015) externally and white (RAL 9010) internally, as standard.  All rooflights come factory glazed, as one unit for ease of installation, for the best easy to fit solution include our Upstand which will give you the correct fall angle required.

Our rooflights can be fully customised with various glazing options; finishes vary and can sometimes be utilised in multiple combinations. You may wish for the glass to be etched or obscured for added privacy or environmental impact.  Perhaps coated for light / heat transmission properties and maintenance advantages.  Or even annealed, anti-reflective, ceramic frit / enamelled, fused, opaque, patterned, polished, sand-blasted, self-cleaning, tinted etc…the options within glass specifications are endless.  The only limitation is your imagination. You could also upgrade and choose the external frame colour from a variety of RAL colours.

The thermally broken rooflight range is fully tested to the CWCT guidelines (excludes slimglaze) (in accordance with the latest BS EN standards) for; air permeability, water tightness & wind resistence.  Achieving the highest classifications possible – for full details, please view the test report in the ‘Tech Spec & Download’ area of each rooflight. Ideal for installation on flat roofs, but can also be used on sloped roofs up to a pitch of 30 degrees. Slimglaze maximum incline is 14 degrees.

We also offer a full installation service, for more information please see our Installation page.

Our online shop supplies to mainland UK ONLY; if you want to order from another location, please do not hesitate to contact us directly on +44 (0)1485 520 860.

FAQs

What are the size dimensions on your website?

The sizes listed are the external dimensions of the rooflight ie. the size of exposed glass or daylight as seen from the inside. Slimglaze dimensions are dealt with differently because these sit on top of kerb with no overhang, but don’t worry we will confirm external and internal slimglaze frame size with you as part of the order/payment process. If in doubt please ask.

How do I measure correctly for my rooflight?

If you are buying an insulated rooflight with an Insulated Upstand you need to measure the size of the hole in the roof and then deduct the overall external finishes you intend to use from that measurement.

If you are only buying the top section to fit to an existing kerb/upstand you need to measure the internal size of the kerb/Upstand. Please ensure that your upstand / kerb is no less than 150mm tall and no more than 100mm in thickness.

Please note: Our measurements include the internal decorated finishes. For more information and clarity regarding the measurements of our rooflights, please download the relevant product drawings. Slimglaze rooflights take 64mm off the slimglaze external measurement to give the internal size of your timber kerb.

How do I place an order?

It couldn’t be easier; simply add the rooflight/s you require to your basket, selecting your exact requirements, checkout and pay for the rooflights using our secure online payment method. We will send you an email acknowledgement and confirmation of your order and will then confirm when your rooflights are being dispatched.

Or alternatively, you could call us on 01485 520 860 and place your order in person over the phone.

What are the delivery times?

Our Stock items – Standard sizes; are available for Next Day delivery, if ordered before 12pm (midday). Or standard delivery is within 5-10 working days.

Our non-Stock items – Standard sizes & Bespoke Sizes; are available for delivery within 15 working days.

View full delivery information.

How much will my rooflight weigh?

This will obviously be dependent on the size and specification of your rooflight, but as an example a standard specification Fixed Skylight; 1000mm X 1000mm would weigh approximately 50 kgs.

If you need to know the exact weight of your rooflight we can advise you of this, on dispatch.

How will my rooflight be packaged?

Your rooflight will be fully protected; packaged as necessary for the transport we use to ensure safe arrival. In some cases your rooflight will be the only item in our vehicle in which case minimal or no packaging will be used.

How are my rooflights delivered? And will help be required to unload?

Your rooflight will be delivered by our mainland UK dedicated delivery provider via a tail lift, on a kerbside delivery basis (as most sites do not allow sufficient obstacle free, reasonably level access for a 3.5t vehicle and if a pallet truck could be used, will not operate successfully on loose gravel or soft ground).

Depending on the size and weight of your rooflight, extra hands on site may be needed to help unload.

We will inform you on our Dispatch Confirmation email; the weight of the rooflight and how many people will be required to unload.

Can I collect my rooflight from your factory?

Collection of your order is possible from our factory at Unit 1, Mill Lane, Waterford Industrial Estate, Great Massingham, PE32 2HT. The same lead / delivery times apply. To opt for collection, go through to Checkout and select it in the ‘delivery options’. We will then contact you to arrange a time for collection.

Please note: that an appropriate vehicle MUST be used for collection, bearing in mind fork-loading, dimensions (allowing for packaging) and weight of your order.

What shape rooflight can I have?

You can have any shape rooflight you like – but this would not be part of our Standard Product Rooflights range, you would need a fully bespoke alternative option, which would be dealt with by our high specification structural glass solution side of our business; to discuss your requirements in further detail please call our offices on 01485 520 860 or email your enquiry to sales@aaglazingsystems.co.uk.

Are the rooflights safe to walk on?

Our Rooflights are classed as “Fragile Roofs”, except for the Walk-On Rooflights. If there is any possibility whatsoever of persons stepping or falling on the rooflight, it is your responsibility to ensure that safety barriers are installed to prevent persons from stepping on or falling on the rooflight.

Do you have a site survey service?

We do have a site survey service where we could attend site to check that the upstand has been constructed correctly or to check the opening to which our upstand is to be fitted. The cost of this will depend where in the country the project is and if we have anyone close by at the right time. Please contact us on 01485 520 860 if you would like to use this service.

Do you offer an installation service?

We have our own installation teams available to install your rooflights throughout the UK, for more information please see our Installation page.

How do you support your rooflights?

Rooflights are installed with a supporting upstand / kerb detail. Upstands are used to keep the glazed section of the rooflight off of the roofs surface and are typically made of timber.

When ordering your AA Glazing Systems rooflight/s you will be offered the option of being supplied with our Upstand. We would recommend that this be used as this will ensure that you have a 3 degree pitch to allow for water run-off and the correct upstand width.

Can I use my own upstand?

A good carpenter / builder can build an upstand with the required specification, either new or existing, as long as the following guidelines are adhered to:

  • Ensure the upstand is square by measuring across the diagonally opposite corners.
  • Allow for the correct pitch
  • Minimum height of the upstand is 150mm
  • Upstand width should be 100mm (including finishes)
  • Slimglaze upstand width can be reduced to 70mm

Finally, whether AA Glazing Systems has supplied your upstand or if you have constructed it yourself, it is important you correctly instruct your roofer to dress the upstand. To ensure the correct fitting of your rooflight offer the following instruction: The roof membrane thickness cannot exceed 8mm to the top most 100mm of the upstand. Make sure that the top face of the upstand is free from undulations that exceed 3mm.

How high does the upstand need to be from the roof surface?

Current building regulations state that the upstand must protrude at least 150mm (at its lowest point) above the finished roof surface.
To ensure the correct fitting of your AA Glazing Systems Rooflight offer the following instruction: The roof membrane thickness cannot exceed 10mm to the top most 100mm of the upstand. Make sure that the top face of the upstand is free from undulations that exceed 3mm.

Do the flat rooflights need to be fitted with a fall to make rain water run off?

No, as long as the upstand / kerb detail will ensure that you have a 3 degree pitch to allow for water run-off.

Does the glass block the harmful UV rays of the sun?

No, not as standard – our standard glass specification is 28-32mm DGU toughened safety glass with low-e coating and warm edge spacer. With the exception of the Walk-On Rooflights, as the glass specification is determined by the size & loading requirements.

Solar control glass is available as an optional extra with our Bespoke range; as is self cleaning glass, diffused privacy interlayer and external paint colour choice.

What are the power and wiring requirements for the Electric options?

All our electric rooflights run on 24V DC. We include the transformer and relevant components to operate your rooflight. The wiring diagrams needed will be sent with your rooflight. They must be wired in and signed off by a qualified electrician for your insurance purposes.

Which side will the hinges be on my rooflight?

The hinges on our rooflights are always on the width dimension.

Do the rooflights come with a warranty?

  • Slimglaze units – 12 months warranty – An additional 4 year warranty can be purchsed for £80 please ask for details
  • Painted Surfaces – 10 years
  • Glass – 10 years
  • Silicone Sealants – 10 years
  • Operating Gear – 12 months from date of purchase

Please note; that to maintain these warranties you will need to follow the instructions detailed in our Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Guide.

How do you clean your rooflights?

Please refer to the O&M Guide that is delivered with your Rooflights, or you can download a further copy of the O&M Guide in our ;Tech Spec & Download’ area, which can be found in the Product Detail pages of our website.

Can your rooflights be specified in different colours?

Slimglaze are single colour. The standard is black ral 9005m. Thermally Broken frames are dual colour, coated with marine grade polyester powder coating; supplied in dark grey (RAL 7015) externally and white (RAL 9010) internally, as standard. If you would prefer an alternative external colour you can upgrade your rooflight and then choose the external colour you would like from our RAL colour chart.

Please note: this optional extra may affect the lead time.

What are your payment terms?

Our payment terms are full settlement on placement of order. We accept payment through our online payment method, which accepts all major credit card and PayPal transactions.
